Inverting The Pyramid

"Simple one of the best books ever written about the world's game" Dominic Sandbrook

MUST READ; All fans, parents, players & coaches

This book helps Canadians, especially coaches, understand one angle to the problem why Canadians are not developing high level soccer players. This book reiterates why I am involved in coaching on and off the field. I believe I can be part of the difference in making Canada a place for players to develop properly no matter what their goals. Reading this book was one huge step forward. Read it and e-mail me your thoughts!

Possession

Teaching possession is the fundamental team skill every coach needs to focus on. Everything in attack starts with simple ball possession. The attacking style of "kick & run" have no value to players or the fans. It leaves an empty feeling even when one team or player scores because of the element of fluke.  Furthermore, at the highest level possession football has proven to be a much more superior attacking style then "kick & run". For ideal long term player development, teach your players how to possess the ball individually and as a team. Give them the foundation to play the game is needs to be played. Short term winning by kicking the ball forward every time at U12 means absolutely nothing long term. Your success as a coach of a team will depend on how well your team can possess the ball.

For training sessions on how to possess the ball, go to our Coaches link http://ezrasoccer.com/coaches.php

How do we group players?

At the beginning of each clinic, players are assessed by age, skill and experience. We do this to ensure your player is developing as efficient as possible. We do consider requests for players to be with friends.

What do we do in event of bad weather?

We base our decision on field conditions and players age. We suggest to all parents and players to “dress” for the weather. If one thinks that practice may be cancelled, check your e-mail before going to the pitch. ES uses the quote “No news is good news.”

Do our players play all day?

No; while we do offer full day clinics our practices are broken up by having sessions on and off the field. We make sure each player plays hard and rests well. We achieve this by not always being on the field. Groups will be off the field for a portion of each practice day, either cross-training or in classroom education. Moreover, we have many stoppages for water, snacks, and lunch. Our goal is to offer the “total soccer experience.”

Can my player be with their friends?

Yes, we do our best to put friends and teammates together; however, there is no guarantee as age and ability level play an important role in our decision process. Please indicate if your player wants to be with a friend on registration form.
